TGIF: Moss Boss

TGIF! So excited about a new DIY...there's nothing better than a weekend project on the horizon!

SO I was at the store and came across this ribbon-like moss (I'm sure you've seen it before at your local craft store)

Of course seeing it all wrapped up I had the visual "oooo lets wrap this around containers filled with orange/peach/red flowers....GORG!" (yeah, my visions speak to me) But ideas are always better when you sit on them for a bit *note: I didn't actually sit on the moss* and here is what has developed:

Featured Flower: Ranunculus

I'd like to officially instate the weekly happenings of FEATURED FLOWER! (AKA play time for me!)
And what better way to kick it off than with my all time favorite (..if I HAD to choose) the Ranunculus.

I love this flower for so many reasons. Cosmetically, it comes it a variety of colors and shades. Stylistically, it is vintage in its blossoms, yet whimsical in its shape. These blossoms start off  as a small tight bud (perfect for bouts) and their papery layers can open up to be as large as your fist! I once heard Ranunculus described as roses with the top cut off...and it stuck with me! I think we all have our opinions about roses...but we'll save those for another day :)
Generally they're a pleasure to work with, although be careful of the dainty stems. Their curvy nature tends to weaken the stem resulting in a floppy blossom. I, however, have never wired these blossoms because I absolutely LOVE their unique shape!

Shall we delve a little more into their versatility?

EXHIBIT A: Vintage, Classic, Clean

Milk glass makes the perfect anchor to any vintage design.  I love how classy it is. I imagine this centerpiece on a navy or steel satin linen really juxtaposing the milky white textures.  I used sunflowers as the base to this arrangement- adding color and size to break up the rain of ranuncs.  It was great fun to find the perfect spot for each uniquely shaped blossom!

EXHIBIT B: Airy whimsy

These small, tight buds made a perfect addition amongst the stock in this sprayed arrangement.  This centerpiece fits the bill for any casual event.  Ranuncs were a perfect "after thought"  wiggling their way through the other stems with their cheerful blossoms!

LOVE RANUNCS!!
I'm looking forward to working with them on some upcoming weddings-  perfect addition to bouquets and boutonnieres...I'll be sure to share!

What is your all-time favorite flower (if you HAD to choose)?

Greetings!

Design is my passion, flowers are my craft.  Well...one of them.  I love everything about creating handmade, personalized, and unique items. While I channel this passion towards events, parties and weddings (the other loves of my life...)  I am constantly looking for creativity and inspiration in everything I see.  I hope to use this blog to share those ideas, inspirations, trial-runs, and lessons...

ENJOY!
